About

Jan Cambal

graduated from Prague Conservatory is throughout his life a multi-talented professional musician. He started his musical career as a member of classical symphonic orchestras playing oboe and piano, he worked as a teacher at various institutions including the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. In the 90s he began to experiment with percussive instruments especially drums. Using his sculpting and music talent he built a number of original linden-wood drums. He later started playing in different jazz, etno and world music groups, collaborated with Czech charts-leading female singers and participated at a number of renowned international music festivals playing both solo and in groups. Currently he focuses mainly on improvisational music, plays drums, keyboard, percussion, oboe, shawms of his own production and organs. He is in his musical and artistic expression inspired by decades of meticulous study of buddhism and a long number of philosophical schools. He also leads music, dance and mediation workshops in collaboration with his wife, Jindriska Cambalova.
